Why in news?
- The 12th edition of Sri Lanka-India bilateral Naval Exercise (SLINEX-25) being held from 14 to 18 Aug 25 at Colombo.
Exercise SLINEX-25
- What is it – Exercise SLINEX-25 is the 12th edition of the annual bilateral maritime exercise between Indian Navy and Sri Lanka Navy.
- Aim – To further reinforce the strong maritime ties between India and Sri Lanka while promoting a safe, secure and rules-based maritime environment.
- Features – The exercise is being conducted in two phases, the Harbour Phase followed by the Sea Phase.
- Participants –
- INS Rana (a Guided Missile Destroyer) and INS Jyoti (Fleet Tanker) will represent Indian Navy.
- SLNS Gajabahu and Vijayabahu (both Advance Offshore Patrol Vessels) will be representing the Sri Lankan Navy.
- Concurrence with Indian Policies – SLINEX is in consonance with Indian policies like-
- ‘Neighbourhood First Policy’,
- Prime Ministers’ vision of ‘Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR)’ and
- MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions).
