Why in the news?

  • The 21th edition of “EXERCISE YUDH ABHYAS” commenced at Alaska, USA.

Exercise Yudh Abhyas

  • What is it?: It is a joint military exercise conducted annually between the armies of India and USA.
  • Origin: It has been ongoing since 2004.
  • Aim: It is designed to promote cooperation between the two militaries while sharing training, cultural exchanges, and building joint operating skills.
  • Features of the Exercise
    • Troops will rehearse a spectrum of tactical drills including heliborne operations, employment of surveillance resources and unmanned aerial systems, rock craft, mountain warfare, casualty evacuation, combat medical aid and the integrated use of Artillery, Aviation and Electronic Warfare systems.
    • In addition, subject-matter experts from both armies will conduct working groups on critical domains such as UAS and Counter-UAS operations, information warfare, communications and logistics.
