• The World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed an outbreak of Rift Valley Fever (RVF) affecting Mauritania and Senegal in Western Africa.

Mauritania

• Location: Mauritania is located on the Atlantic coast of Africa.
• Capital: Nouakchott
• Border Countries: Algeria, Mali and Senegal.
• Geography:
  • Border with Western Sahara, Atlantic Ocean.
  • Part of Sahel and the Maghreb
  • The most prominent feature of this region is the Guelb er Richat, also known as the Eye of the Sahara, which is a deeply eroded dome consisting of a variety of intrusive and extrusive igneous rocks.
