- It is in orbit around the Sun
- It has sufficient mass for its self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a hydrostatic equilibrium (nearly round) shape, and
- It has cleared the neighbourhood around its orbit.
- For Example: Planets in our solar system like Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune.
Dwarf Planet
- Criteria
- Orbits the sun.
- Has enough mass to assume a nearly round shape,
- Has not cleared the neighbourhood around its orbit
- It is not a moon.
