Active Volcanoes
- An active volcano is a volcano which is either erupting or is likely to erupt in the future.
- Most of the active volcanoes are found in the Pacific Ring of Fire.
- For example – Barren Island in Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the Indian Ocean.
Dormant volcano
- A dormant volcano is one that is not currently erupting but has erupted within recordable history and is expected to erupt again in the future.
- For example – Mt Kilimanjaro
Extinct volcano
- Extinct volcanoes are considered dead and are not expected to ever erupt again.
- For example – Aconcagua of Andes
