Biodiversity Conservation Projects: Project Snow Leopard

Launch: Launched in 2009 by the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) of the Government of India.
Aims: To protect and conserve India’s unique population of high-altitude wildlife, with a particular focus on the snow leopard.

Snow Leopard

Also called ‘ghost of the mountains’ in India’s easternmost tiger reserve.
Snow leopards act as an indicator of the health of the mountain ecosystem due to their position as the top predator in the food web.
