One of the important Himalayan rivers that originates from Tibet. The Brahmaputra is a major source of water for the north-east states of India.
- The river originates in Tibet from the Chemayungdung Glacier near the Kailash range.
- It is known as the Yarlung Tsangpo in Tibet. The river, once it enters Assam, is known as the Brahmaputra.
- The river primarily flows through Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
- It enters from Tibet through Arunachal Pradesh as Dihang or Siang. The Dihang joins with Dibang and Lohit in Sadiya in Assam to be known as Brahmaputra.
- It joins Bay of Bengal through Bangladesh.
- The river has very steep slope in Tibet and once in India, the slope drastically reduces which results in braided rivers.
- Subansiri, Dhansiri , Manas, Sonkosh are important tributaries.
