- DAC was established to streamline the procurement of defence weapons based on recommendations made by the Group of Ministers on Reforming the National Security System in February 2001.
Composition
- Defence minister will chair it. The CDS and Chiefs of Army, Navy, and Air Force will also be part of DAC.
Functions
- The council focuses on approval to Capital acquisitions for various defence projects.
- The acquisition will be based on projects that are either ‘Buy’ projects or ‘Buy and Make’ projects, or ‘Make’ projects. This means projects that are entirely purchased/ projects that are purchased, followed by licensed production, indigenous production, and R&D.
- Monitor the feedback of the Defence Procurement Board.
