DAC was established to streamline the procurement of defence weapons based on recommendations made by the Group of Ministers on Reforming the National Security System in February 2001.

Composition

  • It will be chaired by the Defence Minister. The CDS and Chiefs of Army, Navy, and Air Force will also be part of DAC.

Functions

  • The council focuses on the approval of capital acquisitions for various defence projects.
  • The acquisition will be based on projects that are either ‘Buy’ projects or ‘Buy and Make’ projects, or ‘Make’ projects. This means projects that are entirely purchased/ projects which are purchased followed by licensed production and indigenous production, and R&D.
  • Monitor the feedback of the Defence Procurement Board.
