Ecology: Biotic Interaction

Mutualism

  • It is a mutually beneficial relationship between two organisms.
  • For example – Rhinos and Oxpeckers

Commensalism

  • In this interaction one species is benefited and other one is neither benefited or harmed.
  • For example – Shark and sucker fish.

Parasitism

  • Parasitism is a biological relationship between two organisms, where one organism, known as the parasite, benefits at the expense of the other organism, called the host.
  • The organisms that parasitize humans include fungi, leeches, lice, viruses, protozoa, tapeworm, etc

Predation

  • Predation is a biological interaction of organisms in which one organism is the predator which feeds on another organism known as the prey.
  • In this type of interaction, the predator is benefitted by feeding on the prey, whereas the prey is harmed.
  • For example – Tiger feed dear

Competition

  • Competition is an interaction between organisms or species in which both the organisms or species are harmed.

Amensalism

  • Amensalism is a sort of biological interaction between two organisms or species in which one is neither helped nor harmed, and the other is destroyed or inhibited.
