This agreement focuses on making trading of diamonds more transparent and reduce scope for ‘conflict’ diamond trade. India has become the chair of Kimberly process from January 2026.
- It covers only rough diamonds and not polished diamonds.
- It unites governments, industry, and civil society to eradicate the global trade of conflict diamonds.
- Will help in ensuring that conflict area diamonds do not finance rebel movements.
- Launched in 2003, it is enforced individually by participant countries to ensure that rough diamonds in the legitimate supply chain are KP-compliant.
