What needs to be known?

  • La Nina
    • La Niña and El Nino are climate patterns resulting from variations in the equatorial Pacific Ocean temperature.
    • La Niña is characterised by the cooling of ocean waters along the west coast of South America. El Niño is the warming of Pacific waters on a periodic basis.
  • Impacts
    • Variation in monsoon rain may cause floods and droughts.
    • Fisheries boom due to phytoplankton growth.
