What needs to be known?

  • Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana
    • What is it?: It is a maternity benefit programme launched by the Union Government in 2017.
    • Nature: It is a central sector scheme
    • Beneficiaries
      • All Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers (PW&LM), excluding those who are in regular employment with the Central Government or the State Governments, PSUs, or those who receive similar benefits under any law for the time being in force.
      • All eligible Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers who have their pregnancy on or after 1st January 2017 for the first child in the family.
    • Other Benefits
      • Direct benefit transfer of rupees 5000 to meet enhanced nutritional needs and partially compensate for wage loss.
      • Digital monitoring of the scheme through Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana – Common Application Software (PMMVY-CAS).
      • The eligible beneficiaries also receive a cash incentive under Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY)
  • Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY)
    • Launched in: 2005
    • Type of Scheme: Centrally sponsored scheme
    • Nodal Ministry: Ministry of Health and Family Welfare
    • Aim: To reduce maternal and neonatal mortality by promoting institutional delivery through financial incentives.
    • Beneficiaries: Pregnant women, especially from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and BPL households.
