Universe: Planets and Dwarf Planets

Planets

  • Criteria
    • It is in orbit around the Sun
    • It has sufficient mass for its self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a hydrostatic equilibrium (nearly round) shape, and
    • It has cleared the neighbourhood around its orbit.
  • For Example: Planets in our solar system like Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune.

Dwarf Planet

  • Criteria
    • Orbits the sun.
    • Has enough mass to assume a nearly round shape,
    • Has not cleared the neighbourhood around its orbit
    • It is not a moon.
  • Dwarf Planets in Solar System
