Desai-Liaquat Pact (1945)

  • Aim – Aiming to resolve the deadlock between the Muslim League and Congress, Bhulabhai Desai and Liaqat Ali Khan drafted the pact.
  • Provisions were aimed at forming an interim government :
    • Congress and the league nominate equal members to the central legislature.
    • 20% of seats were to be reserved for minorities. 
    • The Government of India Act, of 1935  will serve as a guideline for the formation of government.
  • However, no settlement was reached.
