- Satpura range is a series of seven mountains ( sat – seven and pura – mountain)
- Satpura is taller than the Vindhyas.
- It runs in an east-west direction, south of the Vindhyas and in between the Narmada and Tapi, roughly parallel to these rivers.
- They run for a distance of about 900 km.
- It is a series of smaller hills and is not continuous.
- Major Ranges are
- Rajpipla – Gauligarh – Mahadeo – Maikala
- Satmala – Ajanta – Nirmala
- Average elevation – 100 to 900m
- Dhupgarh (1350m) near Panchmarhi on the Mahadeo hills is the highest peak.
- Amarkantak (1127m) is another important peak.
- Some parts of Vindhya and Sathpura are block mountains.
- Rift Valley – Narmada and Tapi flow through the rift valley between Vindhya and Satpura range.
