  • Start: The naval mutiny started at HMIS Talwar in the form of a protest by the ratings.
  • Reasons 
    • Racial discrimination
    • Unpalatable food
    • Abuse by superiors
    • Arrest of ratings for shouting the slogan Quit India
    • INA trials
    • Deployment of Indian troops in Indonesia
  • Spread: Later, the mutiny spread to other ships like HMIS Hindustan and HMIS Karachi.
  • Reactions
    • Supported by the Communist Party of India.
    • Condemned by Congress and the Muslim League.
    • Gandhi condemned the revolt.
  • Result: Later, the ratings surrendered and the British appointed a Cabinet Mission.
