Basics

• Initially, Mysore was ruled by Wodeyars but later power was taken over by Haider Ali.
• Haider Ali reorganised the army with French support.
• Adopted policy of religious tolerance.

Anglo Mysore Wars

1. First Anglo – Mysore War
   • Mysore defeated the British with French support.
2. Second Anglo-Mysore War
   • Mysore got the support of Hyderabad and Marathas.
   • During the war, Hyder Ali died and the war was continued by Tipu maintaining his status co with the British.
   • Contemporary of First Anglo-Maratha War.
   • Lord Warren Hasting was the governor-general.
3. Third Anglo-Mysore War
   • Marathas and Hyderabad supported the British, so Tipu was defeated and signed the Treaty of Srirangapatnam. 
   • Lord Cornwallis was the governor-general.
4. Fourth Anglo-Mysore War
   • Tipu was killed.
   • Lord Wellesley was the governor-general.
