West Flowing Peninsular Rivers: Narmada River System

  • Fact: The largest west-flowing river that flow through rift valley between Vindhya and Satpura ranges.
  • Origin: Maikala range near Amarkantak in Madhya Pradesh
  • Basin States: Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh
  • Bounded by: The Vindhyas on the north, the Maikala range on the east, Satpuras on the south, and by the Arabian Sea on the west.
  • Urban Centre: Jabalpur.
  • Associated Waterfalls: Dhuan Dhar, Sahastradhara.
  • Major Dams: Indira Sagar, Sardar Sarovar, Omkareshwar, Bargi and Maheshwar.
  • Major Tributaries
    • Right Bank  Tributaries: Barna, Hiran, Tendoni, Choral, Kolar, Man, Uri, Hatni, and Orsang rivers.
    • Left Bank Tributaries: Burner, Banjar, Sher, Shakkar, Dudhi, Tawa, Ganjal, Chhota Tawa, Kaveri, Kundi, Goi, and Karjan rivers.
