West Flowing Peninsular Rivers: Tapti River System

  • Fact: Second-largest west-flowing river of Peninsular India
  • Origin: Multai reserve forest in Madhya Pradesh.
  • Mouth: Gulf of Cambay, Arabian Sea.
  • Borders: Basin is bounded by the Satpura Range on the north, the Mahadev Hills on the east, the Ajanta Range and the Satmala Hills on the south, and the Arabian Sea on the west.
  • Passing States: Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat.
  • Tributaries of the Tapti River
    • Right Bank: Suki, Gomai, Arunavati, and Aner rivers.
    • Left Bank: Vaghur, Amravati, Buray, Panjhra, Bori, Girna, Purna, Mona and Sipna rivers.
  • Projects on the Tapti River
    • Hatnur Dam of Upper Tapi Project (Maharashtra).
