Fundamental Rights: Article 21 A

  • What is it?: Right to Education
    • Article 21 A declares that the State shall provide free and compulsory education to all children of the age of six to fourteen years in such a manner as the State may determine.
  • Amendment: Added by 86th Constitutional Amendment Act of 2002.
  • Other Constitutional Provisions: The right to education is also mentioned under the Directive Principle of State Policy ( DPSP) and Fundamental Duties ( FD).
  • Statutory Backing: Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009
