Government of India Act of 1935
  • All-India Federation: Proposed the formation of an All-India Federation with provinces and princely states as units.
  • Division of Powers: Divided powers into three lists – Federal List, Provincial List, and Concurrent List; residuary powers were given to the Viceroy.
  • Provincial Autonomy: Replaced dyarchy in the provinces with provincial autonomy, granting more self-governance to provinces.
  • Dyarchy at the Centre: Introduced dyarchy (dual governance) at the central government level.
  • Bicameralism in Provinces: Introduced bicameral legislatures in six out of eleven provinces.
  • Separate Electorates: Continued separate electorates for depressed classes, women, and labour.
  • Council of India Abolished: Abolished the Council of India, originally set up by the Government of India Act of 1858.
  • Establishment of Key Institutions:
    • Reserve Bank of India (RBI)
    • Federal Court for resolving disputes between the federal government and provinces
    • Public Service Commissions: Federal, Provincial, and Joint Public Service Commissions to oversee civil services.
