International Groupings: International Police Organisation (Interpol)

  • What is it?: It is an international organization facilitating international police cooperation against cross-border terrorism, trafficking, and other crimes.
  • Formation and Aim: It was set up in 1923 as a secure information-sharing platform that facilitates criminal investigation of police forces across the globe through the collection and dissemination of information received from various police forces.
  • Headquarters: Lyon, France
  • Decision Making: All decisions regarding the activities of INTERPOL are made by the General Assembly which is its supreme governing body which meets annually.
  • Nature: It is an independent international organization.
  • Indian Organisation Associating with Interpol: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)  is the Indian nodal body for Interpol.
