Major Provisions Coming into Force on January 26, 1950

- This day was chosen for its historical significance, as Purna Swaraj Day (complete independence) was declared on January 26, 1930, by the Lahore Session of the Indian National Congress (INC).
Repeal of Previous Acts
- With the commencement of the Constitution, the Indian Independence Act of 1947 and the Government of India Act of 1935 (along with related amendments) were repealed.
- However, the Abolition of Privy Council Jurisdiction Act (1949) was continued.
